Crazy weather or where you will be the day after tomorrow?

It seems the nature has gone crazy. And it looks like such case is not only in Moscow but through over the world.

This morning news reported that today is nearly the first day when the weather in Moscow is ‘like usual’ (which means the weather is normal for such time of the year). Today is minus 10 degrees but a week ago it was 5 above zero.

The annoying thing is that we can’t go skating to the outdoor skating rink. Last weeks it was more-or-less “below zero” during working days but always became “above zero” on week-ends… what a stupid weather! We have opportunity to go skating together only on week-ends ((

Tsunami in Asia, snowfall in New-York, temperature drops in Moscow – I recalled the movie “The day after tomorrow”… strange weather leads to strange association ;-)

Erasmus???

Hi mates!! I’ve heard jorge is the main figure in the organization of erasmus events (i supose meetings, activities and of course parties as well). As an ex-erasmus student (last year in Reading, UK, uauhhh, what a fucking great experience it was) i’d like to join everything, whenever and wherever it takes place… so, is there any formal email list, or any official page about Carlos III erasmus events, or something like that?? Sign me and you’ll get a cute and funny mate ;D. Promised right now!!!

Nice to discover life after erasmus is possible

Language as a Lego

Have you ever think about a language as a Lego constructor? Well, look at it; words are like small Lego-parts and grammar rules are ways of connecting these pieces.

But this metaphor works only with written language. I mean that when you try to write any sentence you take infinitives of the words and put them in the right form and order according to the grammar rules. When you try to read and understand the text you are doing quite the contrary : trying to recognize the structure of the sentence (the subject, the predicate, the objects, etc.) and translate all these words.

This assumptions is not suit for speaking: in many cases it’s difficult to distinguish the structure of the phrase which you hear; and when you want to speak fluently you have no time to take pieces and connect them but you just speak \r\nBut I have just started to learn Spanish and it’s nice to perceive it like a game. By learning by heart new words you acquiring new Lego-pieces and by studying grammar rules and making exercises you are really feel like playing with Lego. To tell the true I like to read about grammar and looking at similarities with my own language or with English but I find it boring to learn words by heart. But I have to! Otherwise knowing the grammar rules is meaningless€

And one more comment: “it’s interesting to learn one foreign language on another. I mean that when you read explanations of Spanish language in English” I think it helps to improve both languages. It’s a pity that I wouldn’t be able to find in Moscow Spanish courses which are taught in English. But I wish it could be possible. Ok at least now I am using teaching materials which are in English.\r\n

Life in Holland: changes in my mind

I’ve decided to make a kind of brief conclusion about my staying in Holland and the first thing that appears in mind about this issue is that Holland has changed my mind. I became Europe-addicted.
I feel a kind of dual personality now – half of me is always about Russia, which is my native land, and at the same time now my mind is more open then before coming here.
I like the freedom of going almost everywhere you want without such troubles as getting visa… I started to think in a geographical wider way (not sure that last phrase is correct in English but can’t state it now in other words). I’ve realized that Europe is a big set of cultures and great history. Certainly I knew this before (I had good marks at school!) but now I sense it. I am sure that I can’t stay only in Moscow for a long time because there are a lot of places which I have to see.
But the changes are caused not only by nice places but also by people I met here. People from different countries who shown me that we are quite similar even if we speak different languages. And knowing foreign languages gives you communication independence; it’s a bridge to other cultures. That’s why I decided that I should learn more foreign languages and the next one in my list is Spanish. So I can write now ‘Hola! estudio espanol’.
